london calling: day two

March 26th, 2014
Rising up at 6AM to meet our professor at 8AM in downtown, we hopped on the tube to the University of Westminster to meet a professor who would give us a lecture on social media and meet other international students studying abroad in London.

2 hours later, when the lecture was done, we had a 4 hour break, where we had our first Fish n Chips.
Because when you are in London, you have to have Fish n' Chips

Only an avid watcher of The Office will get this reference.
If not, this is an accountant's office.

My professor pointed this sign and said that this could be our future.
Thanks professor.

Fish n' Chips!
Beer battered fried fish with french fries served on the side with tartar sauce.

My friend Sofie ordered 2 more platefuls of french fries, because there is no such thing as having too many fries.

Hello, my name is Tartar Sauce
After lunch, we hopped on the tube to the Discovery channel headquarters located in London, where we got a tour of their offices, TLC channel rooms and cable rooms.
This was my name tag that was given to us during the tour and obviously they spelled my name wrong
#typical

This panoramic is the television room that workers stay to watch multiple channels airing on TLC in different languages making sure each cut is clear, advertisements aren't too long or too short and that whatever they are seeing, the viewers back at home are seeing.
Fun fact about TLC in Britain: Many of the shows come from the United States and are narrated by American speakers. Using those tapes from the US, the UK used them to air on televisions all over the country. However, many viewers complained to the Discovery company in the UK that they disliked the American accent and wouldn't watch the shows if they continued withe it. So Discovery, to make the customers happy, dubbed the American voices into British voices and so viewers would see American made televisions in a British accent.
I mean, I hear about how some British people don't like Americans and their accents, but I mean I didn't know it was THAT EXTREME.

After the tour of Discovery, we parted ways with our professor and decided to see a West End show.
West End shows are small Broadway plays performed in London. My friend Sofie, was telling us that it was the thing to do and knew of a place where tickets were sold at a cheap price ( 32 pounds).
Looking at the list of plays, we all decided on one: ONCE
Based on the film: ONCE starring Glen Hansard, Markéta Irglová with an Academy Award for Best Original Song "Falling Slowly". This play had been in the West End for about 3 weeks, with a new cast.

Once the play was done, we left the theater and heard probably the best news that any American could here.
"Hey there's Chipotle!"
Chipotle. The play off of Mexican food and a tribute to my high school years of flour tortillas hugging black beans, steak, rice, mild salsa, sour cream, cheese and lettuce with their best friends chips and guacamole.
We would be reunited ONCE again and it was beautiful.

So much joy in this picture, as you can see from Kacey's face, my face just doesn't quite capture it.

London's second day of calling was a success and next post is the third day and you know what that means. The three day rule. Maybe tomorrow I will pick up the phone and answer London's call.
